The Toronto Urban Film Festival ([highlight]TUFF[/highlight]), Toronto’s subway film festival, reaches over 1 million daily commuters on subway platform screens across the Toronto transit system every September. 2013 Guest Judge is iconic Canadian cult filmmaker Bruce McDonald.
Each year, at the same time as [highlight]TIFF[/highlight], TUFF screens the best films from hundreds of submissions. In 2013 we will be showcasing truly unique and wholly creative silent one-minute film, video and animation from across Canada and around the world. TUFF films screen every 10 minutes on 300+ Pattison Onestop digital screens on subway platforms at 63 subways stations across Toronto.
Named one of MovieMaker Magazines ‘Coolest Film Festivals’ for 2010, TUFF – the film festival for commuters – showcases the best film, video, and animation from professional and emerging filmmakers. We ask filmmakers to submit work that will be of interest to an urban population.
TUFF works with professional programmers to choose our official selections, and program them over the many days of our public festival. Our Guest Judge then chooses the films to be awarded our top prizes.

Don’t take the subway? Want to watch TUFF films in comfort? Gather some friends or stop by on your own, and spend an hour with TUFF. All 8 programs will be projected in a 67 minute loop in Room 222 at the Drake Hotel. Grab a drink, relax, and enjoy some of the best ultra-short short films around.
Admittance is free.
Awards Party

A night for our local filmmakers to network and have fun! A night to celebrate this year’s TUFF films and the talent behind them! It is surprisingly tough to make a silent one-minute film, and TUFF applauds all of our filmmakers. Join us as we give out awards and some amazing prizes, to this year’s best films.
