Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Poundbury, Prince of Wales’ model town in Dorset on Thursday, to unveil the statue of the Queen Mother. During her visit, she visited a Poundbury supermarket and surveyed the local products.
The queen was accompanied by Prince Philip, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, for the historic visit to the county town. The Prince of Wales showed the queen around the Poundbury development, architects and builders.
The Prince of Wales has unveiled a statue of the late Queen Mother created in tribute to his “darling” grandmother on his Poundbury estate as he gave the Queen a guided tour.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were at the ceremony as part of a tour of his Poundbury development’s latest phase.
“It is with immense pride and in loving memory of my darling grandmother to open her square,” Prince Charles told the crowds as he unveiled the 10ft statue in Queen Mother Square.

At the culmination of the day, the Queen unveiled a statue to her own mother that sits in the appropriately named Queen Mother Square in the heart of the town.
She and the Duke of Edinburgh then went home while Prince Charles and his wife headed back to the – again aptly titled – Duchess of Cornwall Inn.
The duchess duly declared open the pub – named after her obviously – by pulling a pint of, yes you guessed it, ‘The Duchess’ ale, which was sepecially created in her honour.
