HISTORY

In 1905, Miami received government permission to cut through the barrier island known today as Miami Beach. The cut was created to provide direct access from the Atlantic Ocean to the Miami seaport, thus creating what would become Fisher Island. The land deed contained a clause stating the property could not be sold and could only be used for city purposes. Sand dredged from government cut was repurposed as landfill to expand the original 21-acre barrier island.

Today’s Fisher Island is equally exclusive & private. At the heart of this exquisite tropical retreat is the incomparable Fisher Island Club. This Miami Beach resort alternative and luxury country club offers members and guests the finest residential and recreational amenities to be found anywhere in the world.

The original Vanderbilt Mansion now serves as the landmark centerpiece of the 15 luxury accommodations. The original property is composed of the mansion, pumphouse / Beach Club tower, Rosamund’s Studio, Rosemary’s Cottage, North & South Cottages, Guesthouse Suites, Vanderbilt Theater, and the airplane hangar (now Spa Internazionale).

In the summer of 2013, the Rebirth of Fisher Island was completed and included a thoughtful restoration and renovation of the Vanderbilt mansion, hotel accommodations, golf course, tennis center, spa, beach club and private marinas. The goal of the restoration initiative was to bring the iconic landmark up to the demanding standards of today’s discriminating resident, member and guest.

GOLF DESTINATION

Ranked #8 by Golf Digest, our P.B. Dye designed 9-hole golf course is surrounded by gorgeous panoramic views of the Miami Skyline.
The Links at Fisher Island features manicured paspalum supreme grass, laser-leveled tees, and strategically-placed bunkers.

The course is designed to create the most memorable time on the links; each hole is distinctive, and several holes play around sculpted bunkers or over lagoons and lakes. One of the most fascinating holes is the 390-yard, par-4 seventh that plays along Miami’s shipping channel where yachts and cruise ships sail.

Nine holes of pure challenge, ranked in the Top Ten 9 hole courses in the nation by Golf Digest’s Ron Whitten, this scenic seaside course has played host to a number of nationally-televised PGA and Senior Tour shoot-outs. “Golf lovers have 18 holes of design features in 9 holes,” says P.B. Dye, the course’s celebrated architect. Perfection is redefined at The Links’ challenging par 35-championship golf course. The Links golf club features a 10,000 square-foot clubhouse, full-size practice range, short game area, golf instruction by our PGA professionals.

OBSERVATORY

Fisher Island Club features the Victor Arsidi Observatory, completed back in 1990. The Observatory features a custom-made Ash Dome with a range of professional-level telescopes for a complete view of the planets and deep sky objects such as galaxies, nebulas and double stars, and is one of the only facilities of its kind at a resort in North America.

Accessed via a sturdy, wooden bridge leading to a tiny islet, the Observatory inhabits a white stucco structure capped by an iconic silver dome. Inside, the two main telescopes, a four-inch refractor scope and a 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain, are powerful enough to transport viewers into the far reaches of the cosmos – from the rings of Saturn to Jupiter’s multiple moons and all the way out to the Orion Nebula.

Overseen by trained staff, the Observatory experience is intimate enough to leave every visitor with an unforgettable trip through space (Observatory open by appointment only!).
