In 2011, Renault was the third biggest European automaker by production behind Volkswagen Group and PSA and the eleventh biggest automaker in the world by production in 2012, as part of the Renault–Nissan Alliance, the company is the fourth-largest automotive group.

Renault hasn’t given us a time line yet but the car is a limited edition and doesn’t cost a dime more than the regular version. While the wait for the fresh Duster might be a long one we still have some reason to rejoice.

So far the Duster has only been available in front wheel drive format. While the Duster enjoyed considerable success in its first few months stiff competition from vehicles like the EcoSport and Amaze has seen sales decline.

What the category has been lacking so far has been four wheel drive. Neither the Renault nor the Ford offer it. However we now have word from our sources that Renault is planning to launch the Duster with four wheel drive by middle of this year.

The 4X4 Duster however will continue to be sold as the pre face-lift model. We expect Renault to price it about Rs 1 lakh more than the top end front wheel drive model. Having four wheel drive should give Renault an edge over the competition and help them reclaim some sales number. (RENAULT)

Inside the cabin, the new Duster looks identical to its predecessor. However, the company has given some subtle changes to the SUV to make it look fresh. The vehicle now has restyled instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, while the new centre console feature an updated infotainment system.

Additionally, the Duster facelift comes equipped with cruise control, speed limiter, rear parking assist. It also feature the Electronic Stability Control and standard dual front airbags.

The updated Duster retains the same engine configuration- a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol. The diesel powertrain is tuned to offer two power outputs- 84bhp, 240Nm of top torque and 110bhp, 240Nm of torque. Its petrol mill churns out a maximum power output of 102bhp and 145Nm of top torque. The lower spec diesel unit and petrol motor have been mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the 110bhp diesel mill has been coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. (Renault India has also introduced a new 1.2-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is now available with automatic and all wheel drive version as well.)
